Xbox + Windows Store = win or loss?

 

Xbox is joining the company store. Last year Microsoft announced its intention to make Windows 10 and its apps universal. The idea: enable developers to write a single app for both desktop and mobile, make sure customers automatically get the correct download for their device from the Windows Store, and make Android and iOS apps Windows-compatible. We saw the first Universal Windows Program app, Uber, last December. Now Xbox games are joining the program. It’s an ambitious strategy that makes sense for Microsoft, given that most of us own multiple gadgets and want our apps to work everywhere. However, gamers are not thrilled about several aspects of the program: games exclusive to the Windows Store (like Quantum Break), technical limitations, and Microsoft’s checkered record of game distribution.
